Port Mall - Digital Leadership & Retail Ecosystem Transformation
Port Mall is the largest shopping center in Moldova, with over 32,000 m² of retail space and more than 250 brands.
This project focused on building a modern digital ecosystem supporting customer experience, operational processes, and business growth.
Context
Operating at this scale required more than standard digital solutions.
Key challenges included:
- Managing high visitor traffic and complex retail flows
- Improving customer engagement and in-mall experience
- Providing business visibility through analytics
- Integrating multiple brands, services, and entertainment experiences
The goal was to transform Port Mall into a fully integrated digital environment.
Role
I worked as Head of Digital and IT Delivery Manager, responsible for digital transformation initiatives and system development.
This included:
- Leading a team of 9 specialists across digital and technical направления
- Managing delivery of complex systems and integrations
- Aligning business goals with technical execution
- Driving innovation across customer-facing and internal platforms
Custom Systems & Analytics
A core part of the work involved building proprietary systems.
This included:
- Development of custom analytics platforms
- Implementation of customer communication systems
- Creation of ticketing and interaction tools
Analytics was used to:
- Track customer behavior
- Optimize marketing campaigns
- Improve operational decision-making
This enabled a shift toward data-driven management.
Brand Integrations & Commercial Flows
The project also involved working with national and international brands.
This included:
- Integration of entertainment brands such as Happy Cinema and Adventica
- Development of structured customer flows combining multiple services
One of the key solutions was a platform designed for schools:
- Organized group visits for students
- Combined experiences including Adventica entertainment center, McDonald’s, and Happy Cinema
- Created a structured flow increasing traffic and engagement
This approach connected entertainment, food, and cinema into a unified commercial experience.
Navigation & Mobile Experience
A major innovation was the development of an indoor navigation system based on iBeacon technology.
This system allowed users to:
- See their real-time location inside the mall
- Navigate to any store through a mobile application
- Access store information, including:
- Discounts
- Available products
- Opening hours
- Store profiles
This bridged the gap between physical space and digital interaction.
Customer Experience & Innovation
Additional digital solutions included:
- QR-based navigation and interaction tools
- Interactive promotional campaigns
- Improved communication between the mall and visitors
These features enhanced engagement and improved the overall customer experience.
Outcome
The result was a modern, digitally integrated retail ecosystem.
The work contributed to:
- Increased customer engagement and time spent in the mall
- Improved visibility into business performance
- More efficient coordination between brands and services
- Strong integration between digital systems and physical retail
Observations
